Little Bear Print Co. is a business launched by my wife and I in the Fall of 2015. It started as a result of a design piece that I created for our daughter’s first birthday, an infographic of sorts that mimicked hand-drawn chalkboard art. After compliments from friends and family, we decided to make the chalkboard-style art available for purchase. We were successful in the children’s art world, selling birthday infographics, birth announcements and wall prints to friends, family and strangers alike.

This was an entry for the Washington Nationals’ 2015 Major League Baseball All-Star Game Poster Contest. It features an image of Nationals’ slugger Bryce Harper on an American flag background with promotional type placed over. The entire thing was absolutely destroyed with textural overlays to give it a beat-up, worn-down look and feel. Sadly, it did not win, but it was an honorable mention.

This piece was created as the first part of a series of prints geared towards baseball fans for Pastime Print Co. It features the classic shape of a baseball diamond on a checkered pattern in the likeness of freshly-cut grass, serving as a backdrop for a letterpress-inspired rendering of “Home is Where the Park Is”, with the comforting shape of home plate serving as the “o” in the word “Home”. Custom versions include the abbreviations of home cities knocked out of home plate in a color scheme derived from the official colors of the corresponding ball club. This piece is a tribute to my home and a nod to every graduate of the many fine institutions of higher learning in the Commonwealth. The shape of Virginia, with its name knocked-out, is roughed up to remind you of a screen printed poster. Each print is custom designed to match the official colors of the school of your choice, and serves as a reminder of where we come from and where we learned some of life’s most valuable lessons. It is available for purchase from The Virginia Graduate. To view the print on the web and to order, click here.
